He was a singleton pup, born by Caesarean. Litters conceived from frozen semen are often small, and often born by Caesarean. I bless my stars that he was a solid brown boy. It seemed to be fate that the last pup born to Ned was a chip off the old block – a solid brown boy and I new immediately that he would be staying with us. I had wanted to call one of my boys Sydney because I love living here. For his official name I had thought to use some rhyming slang: “Fenrik Steak and Kidney” and I was pondering this on the drive home from the vet’s on his birthday. Somehow, Steak and Kidney did not seem quite noble enough for this precious boy. But it made me think of a Steak and Kidney Pie (as I drove past the pie shop). So it was decided that this boy would be Fenrik Pie in the Sky. If you look up the Cambridge Dictionary, this phrase means: something that is pleasant to contemplate but is very unlikely to be realized. But it has been realised and I suspect he will live up to his promise.
