All Fenrik dogs are part of our extended family. We keep in touch via our Facebook group, and we have the occasional get together for a big picnic.
But by this expression, “Fenrik Family” we are talking about those dogs that we have bred, but do not own, that have made contributions to our ongoing breeding lines.
To be successful in a breeding program, we need to make progress with each generation of breeding. Progress may be a better temperament, better trainability, fewer health problems, a longer life, improved conformation and / or a more consistent result. (One fantastic dog in a litter is not progress if you have another 6 pups that all have problems. We are proud of the quality of ALL the pups in our litters.)
So to progress we need to keep successive generations of dogs, and that means you either have to keep a lot of dogs, which we find unacceptable because dogs need attention and training and time. A second alternative is to rehome dogs when they reach the end of their breeding life. To us this is unacceptable. Our dogs are our dogs for life.
So we thank, with all our heart, those people who have chosen to have a litter with their girls, or to keep their dogs entire. It means we can make more progress with our breeding program, and still maintain the level of care for our own dogs.
